+ GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS

between Richmond & Adelaide, just south-east of
Trinity Bellwoods Park . Map, info and directions here .
PiNG doors open at 8:30pm . 1st set at 9:00 . $8-10

Please note that the PiNG is now hosting concerts at The Array Space.

9:00 . CONDA . Carlo Conda is an electronic musician and composer
in Toronto, Canada. He specializes in unconventional methods
of composing and performing electronic music, utilizing a looper
and portable hardware synthesizer. His alternative approach
has allowed him to create unique and atmospheric music
that immediately comes to life.

10:00 . LES FONTAINES . LES FONTAINES are a Toronto “éléctro-psyche”
synth pop duo. Lorenz Peter (synths, noise, turntables) has played
in numerous duos, including CORPUSSE and in bass synth duo
PROCESSOR. Heiki Sillaste (synths, drum machines, effects) has
previously made music as cult elektro industrialists DIGITAL POODLE
and electronic maximalists KINDER ATOM. Les Fontaines love their
distorted hand-played synth leads, over-layed on top of choppy drum
box funk rhythms, arpeggiated bass lines and swirling, walls of phased
sound. Occasional metallic voices float in and out of the mix,
commanding the listener to pay attention. Les Fontaines
create their own singular sound of psychedelic, electronic,
art synth punk funk.

with ecuadorean rhythms from the Amazon,Andes and Pacific
coast using traditional instrument samples, field recordings and
sound design with Glitch,Drum and Bass, free improv and
controllerism. David West uses a custom double sided
convertible 7 string fretted/fretless midi-guitar,
laptop/controllers and Mark Hundevad electronic
drums and percussion. THE COSMIC ORGY is a tribute
to the cosmic wealth of Ecuador from the beyond.

. 10:00 . THE BODY IN QUESTION . The Body In Question plays
experimental electronic music. Our influences include Zoviet
France, Nurse With Wound, Cul De Sac, Tod Dockstaeder,
Lorde Awesome, Miles Davis (especially the Bitches Brew years),
Black Dice, Kieren Hebden and Steve Reid to name just a few.
We are interested in what Damo Suzuki calls spontaneous
composition but also don't mind digging in for a fierce chaotic
improvisational jam from time to time. Some of the pieces you
hear were created in the moment, usually live in the studio,
while others were crafted over time using layers of overdubbing.
Always, at the core of what we do, is the spirit of exploration
and experimentation. The Body In Question is:
Charles Hackbarth on synthesizer, guitar, sampler and
various electronic gizmos; Marc Cohen on drums and
keyboards; Eric Laimer on guitar; Jim Taylor on bass;
special guest vocalist Sue Hutton from Rhea's Obsession.

GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS
Tues. Mar. 18th @ Supermarket . 268 Augusta Ave.
Kensington Market . just south of College. Map + info here
PiNG doors open at 8:00pm . 1st set at 9:00 . $8-10

. 9:00 . WINDERMERE . Michael Thompson, known as DJ Polyphonic,
was a promoter with Soundsphere during the heyday of the rave era,
bringing The Black Dog, Mixmaster Morris and a mini version of The Orb
to Toronto, as well as the Darkwood guerrilla ambient events in Serena
Gundy Park and the infamous Samhain in Wasteland event, held in an
abandoned building on Halloween 1998. Now entirely focused on
production, he has chosen the moniker Windermere for
ambient and electronic musics.

. 10:00 . VESPAZIANI/DAVISON . Bob Vespaziani is a freelance
drummer/percussionist, who is very active in both the Blues and
Improvisational music scenes in Canada. Bob's main axe is the
Korg WAVEDRUM which he plays though various electronic effects,
expanding the instrument's potential texturally as well as rhythmically.
William Davison is a multi-disciplinary artist and electroacoustic
improvisor who has been active in Toronto's underground,
experimental, noise, and improvised music communities for

karmafarm with Nodefilms
+ Hybrid Frequency with

GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS

Tues. Feb. 18th @ Supermarket . 268 Augusta Ave.
Kensington Market . just south of College. Map + info here
PiNG doors open at 8:00pm . 1st set at 9:00 . $8-10

. karmafarm with visuals by Nodefilms . Returning from
Hamilton, Steven Sauvé finally brings his karmafarm
ambient-systems project back to the PiNG for another
fine evening of minimal yet cinematic soundscapes.
Although Steven has regularly appeared with Geek
Weekend
and at drone and loop nights since, this will
be the first karmafarm set at the PiNG in nearly a decade.
Picking up where they left off a decade ago, Calvin Grant
of Nodefilms will once again be providing Steven with
lushish and striking visuals.

. Hybrid Frequency with General Chaos Visuals .
Hybrid Frequency
seeks to find that connection between
the logic and non logic sounds by experimenting with different
sources, mostly natural and organic. Including Latin-American
folk instruments such as “quenas” and “ocarinas” among
others to give color and texture to the subtle soundscapes
that overlay the noisy walls made by many different tools
such as synthesizers, made electronic devices, computer
software, effect pedals and field recordings. Sometimes
harsh and sometimes drone, ambient or sometimes
experimental, Hybrid Frequency expresses the anxiety
of the artist in search and exploration of the dualities
of life and the struggle of human beings to survive.
Live performances include not only noise, but some
experimentation and improvisation, performance and
some audience interaction. It is always the new, the
unknown, the unexplainable and finally …a surprise outcome.

where radio is the source, subject, and medium of the work.
She also creates dynamic, atmospheric sound works for
theatre, dance, film, and solo performance that are equally
able to reflect upon public media culture or to reveal interior
landscapes.

D. Burke Mahoney . Scanning the shortwave dial for the faintest

haunt and stimulate his listeners. Radio has become his instrument

. ANTI-GRAVITY JANITORS . Long time ambassadors of electronic
groove, Anti-Gravity Janitors resurge in the spring of 2013.
Original line-up featuring Wally Jericho on hornloops and space
oddities with groove battery Geoff Bennett,
and the always
towering electricity of Guitar/Bass Look People Alumnae
Longo Hai.
Expect a hard grooving eclectic sonic mix.

. NORTHUMBRIA . Toronto based ambient metal duo Northumbria
was formed in 2011 by former Holoscene members Jim Field and
Dorian Williamson
. Using only guitar and bass mega amplified
and recorded live, Northumbria create a wall of improvised
drones that take the listener on a sonic journey through
a dystopian landscape.

. CHROMOSPHERE is the solo project of Kris Helstrom, an
alumnus of Digital Poodle and Kinder Atom. Chromosphere is
very little without collaborations. Past and present contributors
such as Heiki Sillaste, Gerald Belanger, Chris Drost, Bill Mason,
Roland Last, Andreas Gregor, Nate Leinert, and perhaps furthest
from least, Anne Sulikowski, have during their time, each given
something unique to "the cause" that has made the process of
Chromosphere more then worthwhile. The product of
Chromosphere is all too varied to start mentioning genre with
any authority, so it is sufficient to say that it is Chromosphere's
mandate to encompass any and all musical ideas of interest;
none exclusively electronic, nor exclusively sequenced, nor
concerned necessarily with popular appeal. Often set to beats;
dance, down-tempo or otherwise, and sometimes just a drone
sans any rhythm save perhaps a pulse to assure the listener that
it is indeed alive. Exploration seems to still best describe what it
is that occurs within this particular Chromosphere.

. dreamSTATE with PiNGERS A PLENTY DRONiNG . Rather
than leave everyone hanging again for another 12 years,
dreamSTATE decided to bring the drone back home to C for
the January PiNG with a good old fashioned 3 hour drone with
the PiNG community. This CODA to the DRONE CYCLE will
include droners from the first Cycle in 2000 plus one from
the 2012 Cycle and a new artist to the PiNG joining in on
the drone.

dreamSTATE has confirmed that Steven Sauvé (Geek Weekend),
Wally Jericho
, Cheryl O (quasiMODAL), Stuart Clark,
James Bailey
and scant intone will be joining in on the drone.

dreamSTATE will kick off the drone at 8pm and then will hand the
drone over to the PiNG community as droners will come and go in
tag team fashion to keep the drone going for 3 hours.
In the tradition
of our Back to School Drones this Start The Year Off Right Drone
will have 4 drone stations set up on stage for each guest to plug
into so that as one sets up to join the drone another will break
down to leave the drone. Each droner will play for about 30 - 40
minutes (dependent on the individual's set-up and tear down time)
so there will be at least two people at all times keeping the drone
evolving.

. GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS . Course it wouldn't be a proper
drone without a visual component to mesmerize on so we'll
have Stephen and Eric providing some good old mindbending
GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS for you to gaze upon.

. Lynn Harrigan - Scenes from the Drone Cycle 2012 . As part
of The Drone Cycle 2012 Coda, the PiNG and Supermarket are
proud to present fiber-artist Lynn Harrigan's now-completed series
Scenes from the Drone Cycle 2012
.

Lynn observed how each Drone Cycle guest brought their personal
identity to the soundweave and wanted to celebrate and visually
document the entire series. She employed mixed-media techniques
blending artistic practises ancient and ultra-modern. The analogue
light projections of General Chaos Visuals were captured with digital
photography and printed on traditional ecclesiastical Irish linen.
Digital images of the musicians were selected to represent each
concert and the heart of each image was then drawn onto the linen
and hand-stitched with single-strand DMC cotton floss.

The complete series will be exhibited at Supermarket from Saturday
January 19th through 27th
and will be available for viewing at
this week's PiNG, just outside the performance-space entrance.
Supermarket opens at 5:30pm for dinner Tuesday to Friday
and at noon on weekends.

8:15 . DARREN COPELAND . To celebrate the dreamSTATE
12th Anniversary Drone Cycle, Darren Copeland will perform
a version of John Cage's Four6 where Max/MSP is automated
to make the creative choices in interpreting Cage's four part
score. For this performance, the 12 sounds designated for
each performer in Four have been edited by Darren Copeland
from archival recordings of dreamSTATE's previous 11 drone
performances. The 12th sound derives from a mystery source.

9.00 . dreamSTATE with SORCERER . The cycle wouldn't be
complete without some didgeridoo in the mix so for the final
drone in the cycle, dreamSTATE invited SORCERER (Beau
Lukes)
to bring along his didgies and some percussive toys
to the C Sharp drone. Drones created with wind and hands
and augmented by electronics will be a fine way to
close out the 2012 Cycle.

10.00 . SORCERER + SYLKEN + MICHAEL HOLCER
~ ‘Moving the Space’ .
This new trio will be performing
their first gig at the PiNG.
SORCERER (Beau Lukes) has played hand percussion
for over 20 years, and the Didgeridoo for 15 years. He works
primarily in electronic landscapes favoring Ambient with a tribal
edge; but also works in Electronica, Dance & Industrial and has
produced electronic music in its many forms for many people
and worked professionally as a studio engineer & producer
since 1996. His latest works can be heard in his collective
project The Eclipse Project.
SYLKEN (Eric Hopper)
,
a veteran of PiNG gigs brings his
space-orch foundation to the trio, blending dreamy pads,
emo-sensuous solos and edgy atmos. Eric has created /
produced several ambient CD projects over the last dozen
years and is also a member of the trio SADU.
Michael Holcer
merges his ambi-grooves and sonic events
to enhance the trio's creative sound sculptures. Michael has
been making musical noises for nearly 30 years, growing up
in Poland on the Berlin School of Electronic Music (those
hypnotic 30-minute sequences and arpeggios) of the seventies
and eighties.
This collective experience evokes smooth classic elements
of ambient synth textures, atmospheres and rhythms,
enticing the listener's mind to float, relax, and groove to
their space-tribal-vibes. Enjoy !!

. GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS . What more can we say about the
Chaotic duo Stephen Lindsey and Eric Siegerman? Their light
paintings are a huge part of the PiNG's and dreamSTATE's
iconography, so we would just like to say thanks.

. dreamSTATE with TERRENCE O'BRIEN . Dial D for drone, for
the second last drone in the cycle, dreamSTATE plugs in with
Terrence O'Brien
of Anomalous Disturbances to unlock the
key of D. Expect the dials to be cranked up way past eleven,
EFX units set to stun and loopers in infinite circular motion as
bowed and manipulated guitar strings mesh and collide with
an electronic pulsating current.

. ANOMALOUS DISTURBANCES + WASSONIC . Emanating from
Vancouver, BC, Anomalous Disturbances, aka Terrence (Terry)
O'Brien, creates ambient soundworlds utilizing his array of guitar
synthesizers, sound processors and looping devices, through which
he plays his guitar. Terrence constructs improvised mixes of ethereal
washes, snaking drones, subterranean rumblings, ghostly melodies,
hums, murmurs, bleeps, bloops, sci-fi noize, disembodied voices and
the occasional found sound/field recording. He has released five
albums of looping ambient-drone guitar improvs and contributed to
collaborative projects with PiNG alumni, Matthew Poulakakis
(Wassonic), as well as Eric Hopper and Jamie Todd (SADU). A
new album, Archive Three, is forthcoming from Anomalous
Disturbances
on Dec 21, 2012. Terrence will be joined by his
brothers Chris and Mike on percussive enhancement during his
AD set and later will be joining Matthew Poulakakis for a special
Wassonic set of Lost World Music.

. GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS . Stephen Lindsey and

PiNG doors open at 8:00pm . 1st set at 9:00 . $6

9:00 . dreamSTATE with BEN GROSSMAN + HUGH MARSH . Both
Jamie and Scott of dreamSTATE have long wanted to perform
with Ben Grossman so the Drone Cycle brings them the perfect
opportunity as what better than hurdy gurdy and electronics to
develop a deep resonating and mind-altering drone in D#. To make
the 10th drone even more memorable, Ben has invited renowned
violinist Hugh Marsh to join in on the fun by adding his vibrating
strings and electronics to create a truly dimensional drone which
will spread like a sonic fog floating out into the night air.

10:00 . hugh marsh (violin and electronics) and ben grossman
(hurdy gurdy and electronics) .
having spent years playing together
in various bands, hatching their evil plans on tour buses throughout
north america and europe, hugh and ben are finally ready to unleash
a unique improvised mayhem on unsuspecting ears. drawing on their
shared interests in acoustic and electronic sounds, string instruments,
noisy little boxes that go “shnor;lkjsdfietrljsd!” and red wine, they will
create soundscapes and grooves unlike anything else. at times
reminiscent of the heavy, funk-soaked grooves of arvo pärt and
györgy ligeti, or the delicate, subtle shifting soundscapes of
frank zappa and die antwoord, hugh and ben will transport you
to a beautiful world in which george clinton and arnold schoenberg's
love children can live in peace at last under a black metal sun...

. GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS . Stephen Lindsey and Eric Siegerman,
will use light and shadow as brushes to paint the room with swirling

8:30 . DOGMA I (DOMINIQUE BANOUN & ALAN BLOOR) . Visitors
to the Somewhere There performance art space will be familiar with
the many musical sides of Alan Bloor and Dominique Banoun, but
the PING has mostly only witnessed Alan playing metal mostly as
Pholde
and sometimes as Knurl so we've invited them both to do
something a little different to open the night.

9:15 . dreamSTATE with PHOLDE + PHIL OGISON . There's no
better key than E so dreamSTATE invited guitarist PHIL OGISON
and PHOLDE (Alan Bloor) to help them space out for the 9th
instalment of the drone. This melding of metal, strings and
electronics will surely result in a klangerous blend of
progressive psychedelia.

10:15 . AMOEBA STARFISH . Amoeba Starfish is Phil Ogison
(electric guitars and synths) and Jeff Howard (e-percussion,
non-keyboard synths and vocal driven textures). Guaranteed to
thrill you with sounds much larger than you'd expect from a duo
who, having played together off and on for over 20 years, now
choose to freely improvise completely live. Imagine elements of
progressive jazz/rock fusion, ambient soundscapes and alt rock
tumbled together into a unique quadrant of space called
Quantum Jazz!

. GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS . When it comes to progressive
psychedelia who better than the chaotic duo, Stephen Lindsey
and Eric Siegerman, to paint the room with mind bending light,
shadow and fog.

9:00 . dreamSTATE with KALTE . Anticipating a hot and arid
summer, dreamSTATE invited KALTE - Deane Hughes (AKUMU)
and Rik MacLean (mara's torment) to chill things out for the
PiNG's 13th ANNiVERSARY SPECiAL. Deep, dark and dangerous
drones mixed with subtle, but sinister sequences in the haunting
key of F will spread like a blanket of cold arctic summer ice
filling the ambient space with an almost pleasurable
sensation of fright.

10:00 . KALTE . Kalte return from a particularly deep hibernation
cycle to perform an appropriately dark and mysterious set to mark
the PiNG's 13th anniversary. Ranging in style from delicate Icelandic
lullabies to crushing avalanches of Antarctic sound, Deane Hughes
and Rik MacLean of Kalte promise a performance of work that
will entertain and delight the coldest of hearts and the most
isolated of souls.

. GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS . By throwing blazing beacons of
light into the darkness, Stephen Lindsey and Eric Siegerman
of General Chaos Visuals, dreamSTATE's visual partners in
the drone cycle, will bring light, shadow and fog to warm up

and Rob Hoare to help assemble and disassemble the structural
design of the seventh drone house. Using synthetic materials,
keys and wind power, this unique crew of dream geeks will fuse
together a drone with an aural flavour like no other experienced
in the cycle.

where they were transported off into a sonic and surreal space.
Once back on terra firma they vowed to reconvene for a
dream
RADEK flashback which they did once for a far out fun
filled afternoon of sonic play at Sunspot Studios. This third
encounter of dreamRADEK will happen in G as we reach the
half way point of this year's Drone Cycle.

10:00 . ODRADEK . James Bailey, Michelangelo Iaffaldano
and Andy Yue are back to improvise up a beautiful Odradek
sonic storm. James coaxes sound treats from found sources,
Michelangelo plucks, strums, bowes and hammers on handmade
devices and Andy gives an organic voice to an analog box.
The group took its name from a character in Franz Kafka’s
story “The Cares of a Family Man” and their music sounds

might play.

. dreamSTATE with Jim Field . For Part 3 of the Drone Cycle 2012,
dreamSTATE has invited space guitarist Jim Field of Spacenoiz and
Rhea's Obsession
to be their special drone guest for March. Although
Jim and Spacenoiz have performed regularly at the PING, it's been
quite a while since dreamSTATE and Jim last teamed up for a show.
This time out Jim will have to get out the heavy duty strings to
tune all the way down to A# for the drone.

. SPACENOIZ . Jim Field's solo project SPACENOIZ lands once again
at the PiNG to create an ethereal, enveloping wall of sweet spaced
out sound coaxed out of his many stringed things. Once again
Spacenoiz will be graced with a vocal appearance by Rob Greenway
of Brilliantfish.

. GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS . Stephen Lindsey and Eric Siegerman
are back in the house to paint the room with light. Their evolving light

DRONE CYCLE • Part Two • (B)
featuring dreamSTATE with
Matthew Poulakakis
plus sets by NOiNO
+ projections by General Chaos Visuals

Tues. Feb. 7th @ Supermarket . 268 Augusta Ave.
Kensington Market . just south of College. Map + info here
PiNG doors open at 8:00pm . 1st set at 8:30 . $6

. dreamSTATE with Matthew Poulakakis . Long-time
PiNGers will remember dreamSTATE’s epic year-long journey up
through the chromatic scale in THE DRONE CYCLE 2000. On the
“ chromatic anniversary” of THE Drone Cycle 2000, they begin
the Cycle again, with new special guests & traverse the scale
back downward: January in C, February in B... as they bring
the Drone home.

dreamSTATE’s special guest for February is Matthew Poulakakis,
probably best known for his solo projects Automatic Fats and
Salvagesound as well for his work in such groups as NOiNO,
Wassonic
, Contrapture, Harold and Build to Suit. For the
B drone Matthew will be bringing his junkyard percussion rig
as well as his laptop with his samples and stuff. As in 2000,
sometimes the Drone note will only be implied as dreamSTATE
and guest explore new soundspace together, but it will always
remain the foundation and home for each concert.

. NOiNO . Once again the experimental sound project NOiNO
featuring James Bailey, Matthew Poulakakis and Jamie Todd
returns to launch an improvised sonic journey to who knows
where playing who knows what. Even NOiNO doesn't know
where this sound journey will take them as their sound map
only becomes apparent once the gear is plugged in and
NOiNO starts improvising. Odds are there will be synths,
EFX, found objects and possibly even some junkyard
percussion mixed into the sonic stew, but in keeping
with the NOiNO mandate there will be no practices,
discussions or rehearsals prior to the performance.
It's a hard discipline to maintain, but one that
NOiNO is proud to keep.

. GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS . The Chaotic Duo,
Stephen Lindsey and Eric Siegerman will be bringing
some heat on a winter night as their lamps will warm the
room while their evolving light paintings dance about
creating improvised eye candy.

PiNG doors open at 8:00pm . 1st set at 8:30 . $6

. 8:30 . TREEOTICA . Treeotica is an accidental instrument.
Originally beginning as a tree branch carving, it collided with
curiosity, a guitar FX pedal and a cough. David Shelley gathered
branches, carried them home then removed the bark and whittled
the branch ends into shapes resembling fingers. Over the course
of year or so he accumulated many branch carvings. At some point
with a much larger carving he tapped one of the branches and it
resonated a soft tone, elsewhere a deeper tone and he wondered
if he could amplify these vibrations. Perhaps they could be percussion
sticks as used to drum on a djembe. David's percussive journey led
him to experimenting with a guitar FX pedal. Years later exploring
different woods and converting the FX pedal to respond to taps
and vibrations on a branch - Life was bestowed upon the tree
branch. Further curiosities led to adding a cello string, sound
card and Led Zepplin’s Stairway To Heaven music box. So
now, David carves Rhythmic Salvation and Sonics Natura.

beginning in C with special guest HEIKI.

. 10:30 . HEIKI . Heiki (Hey-Key) is a veteran of the Toronto electronic
music scene. Since 1987, Heiki Sillaste has released an impressive
catalogue of well over 45 synthesizer-based records and made
over 150 compilation appearances.

Heiki will be performing tracks from his latest release Sauna Porch
Recordings Co.
, a collection of new music entirely composed and
recorded on the porch of the rustic sauna cabin his father designed
and built in Georgian Bay over 35 years ago.

Heiki made these recordings by creating a live, chilled soundtrack first,
then sitting back and absorbing the Georgian Bay lake view and natural
surroundings for inspiration. Occasionally he would set up a microphone,
record, and then process the natural sounds of the surroundings – the
wind, the birds, the rustling of leaves in the wind, people swimming, or
motorboats and canoes passing by.
Most of the initial music was quickly
recorded as loops in the morning then slowly built up over the course of
a day. Songs were then revisited, treated, layered and re-built over the
course of a few weeks (or years, in some cases). Washes of sound were
created by processing the field recordings then layering them with
synthesizer tones and sequences, creating a fusion of natural and
synthesized resonances.
Sauna Porch Recordings Co. is released
in download format and a strictly limited 250 copy digipack edition.

Kensington Market . just south of College. Map + info here
PiNG doors open at 8:00pm . 1st set at 8:30 . $6

. naw . Montreal ex-pat naw (Neil Wiernik) who currently calls
Toronto his home, began composing electronic music in 1988 with
explorations in audio art and experimental music. Neil's interest in
sound and technology has lead him to a continued questioning and
refinement of audio tools and modes of production resulting in
experimentation with altered instruments, modified devices, and
custom software environments. Neil's music could be described as
warm, atmospheric, and cinematic electronic music. The sound
design of naw is firmly grounded in the rich traditions of dub studio
culture but can also be weighed alongside formal contemporary
composition. His music has been described in "The Wire" as
having "...the kind of sharpness and clarity usually lost amid
the murk and decay of clicks and cuts and digital delays." Neil
has released music on various labels including noise factory
and more recently paper+sound under his naw guise. He has
also released music on elevation recordings and soon on BLRr
for his most recent ambient post rock project with aidan baker
as whisper room. Neil is also a founding member of the online
digital arts publication vague terrain.

. Ortiz . Since his first release in 2003, a dense noise album that only
CBC radio-addicted insomniacs would have heard, Ortiz has continued
whittling away at layers of noise and sound in search of sonic gems.
Crafting richly textured tracks using guitar loops, voices, random
noises, synths, drum machines and whatever happy accidents happen
to make their way into the mix, Ortiz’s music evokes the organic chaos
of modern life. At times peaceful like a cold northern lake at others
screeching like a wonky subway car, Ortiz’s music takes the listener
on a ride through aural landscapes that are strange yet somehow
familiar. Ortiz has been featured in the online culture magazine
Vague Terrain and has released music on Pawn Shop Records
and ping things in addition to a number of self-released titles.

. GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS . Don't blink or you'll miss the chaos.
For your eyeballs, Stephen Lindsey and Eric Siegerman are back
to mesmerize us with their wildly improvised analog projections
of evolving light paintings.

XII DECADE.2 THE PiNG's 12TH
ANNiVERSARY featuring
Geek Weekend +
Transmorphous Sound Ensemble +
quasiMODAL + GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS

Tues. August 16th @ Supermarket . 268 Augusta Ave.
Kensington Market . just south of College. Map + info here
PiNG doors open at 8:00pm . 1st set at 8:30 . $6

. Transmorphous Sound Ensemble . Formed in February 2009
by Chris Meloche and Richard Moule as a forum for sonic creation in
which the two participants create an atmosphere in which sounds
can organically grow and morph into ever-changing soundscapes.
To achieve this goal, the duo utilize traditional musical instruments
in a non-traditional manner.

Meloche plays a table-top guitar which is processed through several
digital processing devices while Moule uses as similar approach on
the violin. Both performers also make use of prepared recordings
(environmental, media etc...) which are also manipulated beyond
recognition. It is this gradual and deliberate melding of complimentary
and contrasting elements which succeeds in the creation of an organic,
immersive soundscape environment.

The works created by the Transmorphous SE are completely
spontaneous and "in the moment" but with a definite feeling that
the sounds have been arranged in a very deliberate manner. The
duo communicate within the confines of a sonic palette which
slowly and progressively twists and turns in a pattern which
resembles a living organism. The listener is enveloped by the
sound and drawn into an alien soundscape which is somehow
rooted in a cloak of familiarity. Sounds slowly appear and
disappear while the passage of time suddenly becomes
an irrelevant concept.

. Geek Weekend . The geeks return for another summer sizzler.
Robert Hoare (Berlin) and Steven Sauvé (Hamilton) look forward
to bringing you all manner of sultry sounds, drenched in absurdity,
and dripping with irony. No computers have been harmed in the
making of this music. ADVISORY: Random processes are used
throughout the performance.

. quasiMODAL . a floating electro-acoustic improv trio/quartet
with punch and a sense of humour, melting together cheryl o
on cello and effects, Steven Sauvé on keys and synths,
Eric St.Laurent on guitar, and Robert Hoare on saxes, clarinet,
lap steele and laptop. Mixing all genres from classical to jazz with
general silliness, quasiMODAL fuses electronic and looping
technologies as well as 'unusual' noise makers, creating textures,
rhythms and soundscapes layered with cello. August 16th's PiNG
Anniversary will feature Andrew Aldridge stepping in for Eric on
guitar - Andrew is welcomed as a long-time veteran of the PiNG,
as well as a founder of the Planet of the Loops and cheryl o's
earliest conspirator.

. GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS . It wouldn't be an anniversary
without the unique evolving lights of General Chaos Visuals
providing us with mesmerizing eye candy of painted lights
projected onto a canvas of performers.

THE AMBiENT PiNG presents
PETiTION OF RiGHT featuring
SOUNS
+
JAKOB THIESEN +

DEB SINHA and BEN GROSSMAN: field

Tues. June 7th @ Supermarket . 268 Augusta Ave.
Kensington Market . just south of College. Map + info here
PiNG doors open at 8:30pm . 1st set at 8:45 . $6

Please note that this Tuesday we'll be opening the doors a
bit later than usual at 8:30 as Supermarket is hosting a
pre-PiNG event in the back room which is scheduled to
end at 8.

8:45 . JAKOB THIESEN . This Toronto based musician and sound
designer has been exploring electronic and acoustic sound for over
10 years. Jakob's love for film is apparent in all his works, his numerous
independent music releases and his film and television sound design
for filmmakers have all focused on the malleability of sound and the
emotional and cerebral impacts that entail. Although it's been a
number of years since Jakob last performed at the PiNG, he was
a regular in the early PiNG years performing as Self Service and
as part of the fabled AMBiENT PiNG ORCHESTRA. In more recent
times, Jakob provided the PiNG with a tape of his visuals which
we regularly played when the Chaos guys took the night off. For
his upcoming set at the PiNG, he'll be performing his recent
ambient audio and visual explorations.

9:45 . DEB SINHA and BEN GROSSMAN: field . Ben and Deb
have wide backgrounds as performers, composers, improvisers,
sound designers and, in Deb's case, video artists. For years,
they have been discussing their history in traditional and
'world' music in light of their interests in new music, sound
art, improvisation and experimental sound and video. Having
performed together in an occasional improvised duo, they
decided to somewhat formalise their work together,
join forces and defeat the legions of evil
, and
create a new context for performance: field

field is an environment for improvised sound and
video performance.

Ben's hurdy gurdy is a contemporary, electro-acoustic
instrument with roots in the European middle ages. Through
extended techniques, live-looping and processing, Ben seeks
to use it as a physical interface into improvised sound creation,
spontaneous composition and the exploration of acoustics,
form and extended aesthetics.

For field, Deb is using video and visual sources outside of
the culturally driven semiotics of his previous work - to
explore code and programming, focussing on form and process.
For tonight's performance, Deb will also be contributing digitally
generated audio based on analogous processes.

10:45 . SOUNS . Michael Red, aka Souns, is a Vancouver based music
producer, performer, DJ and event organizer. Michael is the
founding member of Lighta! Sound, acting captain of the
Low Indigo ship, regular collaborator with Tanya Tagaq
and music curator for New Forms Festival. As a live performer,
Michael combines his “sound art” side with his summed DJ
experience - blending layered atmospheres, subtle details,
and improvised manipulations with a dance floor sensibility.
Upfront beats can quickly scatter to polyrhythmic tangents
and back again. Nearly untraceable pulses can eventually merge
to create fully living and breathing landscapes. Playing more with
the tension side of tension-and-release is common theme, along
with an ever present dub-wise approach to FX, bass, and overall
treatment. Michael's bass music sets can vary greatly in tempo
and feel - traversing the many modes of dubstep, future and
roots dub, heaters, select rap and modern r'n'b cuts, dancehall
fusions, post-dubstep and genre-less music in between. Whatever
the flavours being played, one almost in-escapable common thread
is dub soundsystem mentality. Unplanned experiments and risks,
echo, delay and space.. deep space.. deep water. it can
get as emotional as it can get hype.

New Adventures in Sound Art's
Deep Wireless

Tues. May 10th @ Supermarket . 268 Augusta Ave.

PiNG doors open at 8pm . 1st set at 8:30 . $6

. ProEf (iNSiDEaMiND) . Cheldon Paterson (Professor
Fingers - ProEf
) labels himself a "electronic musician." He should
be calling himself a "electronic artist," since the music he makes
as Professor Fingers is currently Toronto's most inventive
approach to performance art. With a sound dark and brooding, or
fantastical and wondrous, Professor Fingers creates fresh worlds in
every track. Fingers also embraces live performance, putting on a show
that includes costumes and props, scripted theatrics, storytelling and
loads of improvisation. Between himself and his music, Professor Fingers
engages you to join in the fun. His willingness to engage the audience
has allowed him to cross Toronto's live music communities and he can
be seen just as comfortable on an underground hip-hop bill or between
a noise punk band and a folk orchestra. Professor Fingers is set to
release his anticipated debut album "*The Door - Lost World*" this
Summer. -Kevin P- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVYFO8UsiX8

A true feat in turntable manipulation that's been quietly sharpening
over the last 11 years. While most producers have long abandoned
the art of sampling vinyl records, ProF a seasoned professional turntable
musician has chosen to take the art form leaps further. Forget about
sampling breaks, ProEf uses audio imperfections and distorted sounds
as his main ingredients to create deep mentally stimulating rhythmic
landscapes. Fusing his scratch wizardry and attention to detail with
bold sound adventures, Professor Fingers creates fresh rhythms and
textures with his finely tuned skills, as recently witnessed during
a live performance at the legendary composer Steve Reich's tribute
at the Gardiner Museum. The Door - Lost World is his latest offering
and debut album, a series of trippy off beat instrumental and vocal
songs that seem to take on a new life with every listen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsj2mOnaSA4

. NOiNO . It's been 5 long years since NOiNO last tuned up their
radios to warp out the found airwaves at a PiNG RiA show. In fact,
it's also been years since NOiNO last performed, so James Bailey,
Matthew Poulakakis and Jamie Todd are excited to be back to
trap the airwaves into loops, various efx and synthesizers.
Reception as sound source meant to be manipulated in real
time will be the order of the night. There may be transmissions,
there will be guests as dreamSTATE's Scott M2 will be
sitting in and there will definitely be weirdness as sound
is found and twisted.

. GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS . Guys playing radios - sounds like
a night when the chaotic light paintings of General Chaos Visuals
will be needed, so we've invited Stephen Lindsey and Eric
Siegerman
back out to mesmerize us with their wildly
improvised analog projections.

FiT THE FiRST featuring luminations (dvd screening)
+ URM + KALTE+ GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS
Tues. Mar. 8th @ Supermarket . 268 Augusta Ave.
Kensington Market . just south of College. Map + info here
PiNG doors open at 8pm . 1st set at 8:30 . $6

. 8:00 . luminations . The premiere screening of luminations by
General Chaos Visuals and URM to celebrate the release of their
hour long DVD of projected light and ambient electronic music.
This unique film features the multi-layered projected translucent
light paintings of Stephen Lindsey (General Chaos Visuals) which
were created to accompany a musical soundtrack of soundscapes
and electronic music created by Jamie Todd (URM.) For over ten
years, Stephen and Jamie have collaborated and experimented
with these techniques of merging light projections with live music.
This film represents the realization of their lengthy efforts
to create something new and unique in the realm of
audio and visual synergy.

The techniques used for creating the imagery in this film primarily
include the use of hand-painted transparent images, which are
kinetically rotated and overlaid with multiple projectors. The images
are manipulated using optical analog techniques such as prisms,
crystals and fingers. The overall technique has been in development
in live gigs for over ten years now, and although based on some
elements of 60’s light shows, the General Chaos Visuals live
experience is a new beast entirely of its own.

The audio soundtrack, Shadows of Light, was created by URM's
Jamie Todd
(also of dreamSTATE, NOiNO and SADU) who takes
us on a sonic trip made up of six pieces which explore alien
mutant psycho jazz, dark/light ambience, spacey soundscapes
along with some sequencer driven Berlin School pulse. All of the
music was created in real time on a single laptop utilizing a virtual
wall of modular and semi-modular soft synthesizers run through
a matrix of soft efx.

. 9:00 . URM . To complement the free download release of his
stratification LP on the ping things net label, Jamie Todd
unleashes a sonic suite of sequences and soundscapes to perform
the LP LiVE in its entirety as a continuous audio journey. With lots
of new sound manipulating toys in the URM arsenal, stratification is
a tasty mix of sequencer driven Berlin School electronics combined
with haunting ambient soundscapes and seasoned with that wee
bit of weirdness that Jamie has always been so fond of applying
to the mix. As this is a special night celebrating a couple of URM
releases, Scott M2 of dreamSTATE (who is itching to play live with
his new pad) will join Jamie for the final 1/3 of the URM set.

. 10:30 . KALTE come out of hibernation to play the PiNG for their first
show of 2011 to celebrate the launch of their new album "Fissures"
to be released by Petcord on March 15th (www.petcord.com).
Deane and Rik of Kalte will be performing a set drawn from the
mysteries of the Hadopelagic Zone, cold music heard in inhospitable
spaces, ominous and dark tones inspired by massive pressures and
arctic depths. For more information visit www.kaltemusic.com

+ GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS
Tues. Feb. 15th @ Supermarket . 268 Augusta Ave.
Kensington Market . just south of College. Map + info here
PiNG doors open at 8pm . 1st set at 8:30 . $6

8:30 . Gorf is Michael Duncan McArthur; a musician, interactive
designer & web developer currently based in Toronto, Canada. He
has been creating and performing various genres of electronic music
since 2003. Most of his music is available freely on the internet on
his personal website. Michael has released the majority of his music
independently, but has also appeared on releases by Here's My Card
Records
, Bitkins Electronic Music, Anal0g.org, Peace Off Records,
Black Pixel Records, and Vague Terrain.

The product of
Chromosphere is all too varied to start mentioning genre with
any authority, so it is sufficient to say that it is Chromosphere's
mandate to encompass any and all musical ideas of interest;
none exclusively electronic, nor exclusively sequenced, nor
concerned necessarily with popular appeal. Often set to beats;
dance, down-tempo or otherwise, and sometimes just a drone
sans any rhythm save perhaps a pulse to assure the listener that
it is indeed alive. Exploration seems to still best describe what it
is that occurs within this particular Chromosphere.

10:30 . naw . Montreal ex-pat naw (Neil Wiernik) who currently
calls Toronto his home, began composing electronic music in 1988
with explorations in audio art and experimental music. Neil's interest
in sound and technology has lead him to a continued questioning
and refinement of audio tools and modes of production resulting in
experimentation with altered instruments, modified devices, and
custom software environments. Neil's music could be described as
warm, atmospheric, and cinematic electronic music. The sound
design of naw is firmly grounded in the rich traditions of dub
studio
culture but can also be weighed alongside formal contemporary
composition. His music was recently described in "The Wire" as
having "...the kind of sharpness and clarity usually lost amid the
murk and decay of clicks and cuts and digital delays." Neil has
released music on various labels including noise factory and more
recently paper+sound under his naw guise and on elevation
recordings
for his most recent ambient post rock project with
aidan baker as whisper room.

. GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS . After missing a couple of PiNGs
in the fall due to sick days, General Chaos Visuals will be back to
paint the house with light throughout the night.

. Between Sets CDs . "The Desert Inbetween", the new work by
Steve Roach & Brian Parnham, masterfully evokes vast uninhabited
landscapes. "Out and About" by Italy's Herion is the latest release
from the venerable "Hypnos" label and is beautifully crafted primarily
on acoustic instruments. In honour of Bob Marley's recent birthday,
we'll be spinning "Dreams of Freedom", Bill Laswell's "Ambient Dub
Translations"
of his timeless music.

For our last show of 2010 we welcome back some good friends
performing in different guises.

space guitarists Phil Ogison along with laptop percussionist
Jeff Howard, AMOEBA STARFISH

to intrigue, soothe and excite
. Phil and Jeff opened the 2010 PiNG

project and this band was born as a result, so it seems fitting
that they close out this year's PiNG model.

9:30 . EQO2 . BE with EQO2 LiVE for MOVING THE SPACE - The debut
music performance by Benjamin Elfassy (multi-percussionist &
synth-groove artist) and Eric Hopper (aka Sylken on keys, synths,

morphing atmos, ambient soundscapes, ethnic overtones
and musical motions ... moving the space.

10:30 . MICHAEL HOLCER . For the last PiNG set of 2010 Michael will
perform 5 shorter pieces - a few were prepared for the Ricochet
Dream
electronic music festival that Michael played in Europe
recently although for the PiNG he'll be doing less sequence-heavy
versions as is appropriate for the ambient stage. He'll also be
performing a new composition which attempts to balance the
landscapes of ambient worlds with a touch of motion,
rhythm and forward momentum.

FAR SiDE OF THE MOON featuring
Freida Abtan
+ Holzkopf + Nick Storring
+ Worker + The Nausea (Anju Singh)
Tues. Oct. 26th @ Supermarket . 268 Augusta Ave.
Kensington Market . just south of College. Map + info here
PiNG doors open at 8pm . 1st set at 8:30 . $6

. Holzkopf . Since 2001, Holzkopf has been developing a style
of hypnotic and frenetic dance music made from a mishmash
of homemade tape collages, blown out drum machine beats,
dumpstered Chinese pop cassettes, raw data noise, barely
controled feedback and smashed and grabbed found sounds.
The sound is remenicent of proto-industrial, disco, hip-hop, global
psychedelia, gospel and breakcore synthesized into a complete
unique whole unlike any one component part. This is futurist and
anarchist music made on cheap gear, recorded live to tape or dusty
old hard drives. It embodies the spirits of rotting architecture and
100 year old brothels, the wide open spaces of the Canadian prairies
and the angst and anger of battling slum-lords, debt and panic.
More than anything else though, the music is a celebration.
Celebation, after all, is the best form of protest. Sharing the
stage with Princesse Rotative, Cex, Electric Kettle, Andrew Duke,
Maladroit, Botborg, the Shearing Pinx, Sam Shalabi, Knurl,
Emil Beaulieau and many others over multiple tours through
Canada and Europe (in squats, clubs, backyards and under
bridges), a Holzkopf performance is always a spontaneous,
raw and one of a kind experience.

. Freida Abtan . Freida Abtan is a Canadian multi-disciplinary
artist and composer. Her music falls somewhere in between
musique concrete and more modern noise and experimental
audio and both genres are influential to her sound. Her work
has been compared to bands such as Coil, and Zoviet France,
and to that of performers such as Andrew Liles because of her
use of spectral manipulation and collage.

Freida primarily works with samples of both musical and non-musical
objects that she records herself and then manipulates, often beyond
recognition, through techniques derived from musique concrète and
through successive layers of digital signal processing. She uses
structures reminiscent of popular music and more abstract
compositional variants to sequence these sounds into melodic
songs before incorporating her own treated voice.

As well as having created visual shows for and performed with the
internationally renown group Nurse with Wound, Freida has presented
her own sound and visual work at festivals across North America and
Europe. Her first album "subtle movements" is available on United
Dairies / Jnana Records. Her upcoming release "the hands of the
dancer" will be available on Robot Records.

. Nick Storring . Composer, cellist, electronic musician and freelance
journalist based out of Toronto. An omnivorous listener, I also make
a wide range of music spanning abstract electronica, chamber music,
fake world music to extensions of house and New Jack Swing! I play
in the bands Picastro and I Have Eaten The City and routinely
collaborate with various artists of other disciplines: dance,
installation, theatre and film.

Worker + The Nausea (Anju Singh) . Both of these Vancouver
based artists share a serious passion for sound art, drone and
electronics. Worker does lots of circuit bending and modified
electronics and The Nausea (Anju Singh) does mostly ambient
and meditative drones via feedback, violins, etc. Anju also runs
experimental series in Vancouver called fake jazz wednesdays
for the sake of fun and experimentation!

GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS

PiNG doors open at 8pm . 1st set at 8:30 . $6

. 8:30 . ben john robertson . ben john robertson is an electronic
experimental-ambient music and sound artist from Ontario Canada.
His works span the spectrum of progressive sound, cathedral music,
and melodic dronescapes. His experimental sound material boarders
on the emotive where as his heavier drone works encourage his
darker horizons. Mine, all mine! records describes one of his 2010
releases "city lights,” as “epic, organ-based minimalist soundscapes.”

ben john robertson is affiliated with mine, all mine! records and aReW
recordings. He also has a number of self-released records. He has
been featured on nowlikephotographs radio show in both 2009
and 2010 to highlight tracks from his self-released works.

. 9:30 . HEIKI . Heiki (Hey-Key) is a veteran of the Toronto electronic
music scene. Since 1987, Heiki Sillaste has released an impressive
catalogue of well over 45 synthesizer-based records and made
over 150 compilation appearances.

Heiki’s brand new 12 track album Paper+Sound is his first album as
a solo artist. The album is stylistically divided into two halves. The
first half of the album features spacey minimal deep techno with
an emphasis on sub woofing baselines and melodic atmospheres.

The second half of the Paper+Sound album explores slower, dubbed
out down tempo rhythms.?Rib cage shaking bass and discrete ambient
flourishes feature on all of the subtle melodic soundscapes.

Several artistic promotional videos have been completed for the album.
The videos have all been created and directed by Heiki and feature
abstract imagery and typographic representations of the sounds.

. 10:30 . NOISE LEVEL . Keyboardist Ed Matthews began Noise Level
in 2004 as an ethno-ambient, electronic sound project. The musical
objective is to create music that exists in recorded form, yet lends
itself to improvisation in a live setting. Released in June, 2009,

The Liquid Sky
, was favourably reviewed in Exclaim. It climbed to
the #3 position in the CHRW Radio Western’s Top Thirty Countdown.

Meanwhile, Noise Level's contribution to the London live music
scene in 2009 resulted in being nominated for CHRW Radio Western's
Local Artist of the Year and the 2010 London Music Awards in the
Electronics category. On Sunday, April 11th, Noise Level won in the
Electronics Category at the 6th Annual Jack Richardson Music Awards
in London, Ontario.

Conceptual Continuity, released in April, 2010, debuted in the #1
position on the Radio Western Top Thirty Charts. The disc also caught
the attention of London Free Press Entertainment Editor James Reaney,
who featured Noise Level in his weekly column “Reaney’s Pick” on
April 11th. In June 2010, Noise Level was featured in an interview
setting and played two separate live-to-air sessions of new and
improvised music on CHRW Radio Western.

The newest recording is The Liquid Sky: Remixed, which radically
transforms earlier material into stronger, beat-driven “live” tracks.
It also serves to highlight Mr. Matthews’ developing skills as a
composer, keyboardist and producer.

Noise Level continues to push toward an Impressionist blend of
ethnographic World beats and lush electronic textures – and a
Romantic longing for the Infinite.

. GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS . Bring your space goggles. We'll have a
house full of Chaotic Light Painting as both Stephen Lindsey and
Eric Siegerman
will be providing the technocolour with their
analog projectors and hand painted gels for both
ben john robertson's and Noise Level's sets.

. 8:00 sharp . 60x60 Project Audio/Visual Mix
360 degrees of 60x60 (ICMC Sanguine Mix)

Curated by Robert Voisey, the 60x60 Project contains 60 works
from 60 different composers. Each composition is 60 seconds in
duration sequenced together to create a one hour performance.
Highlighting the work of a great many composers, 60x60 testifies
to the vibrancy of contemporary composition by presenting the
diverse array of styles, aesthetics and techniques being used today.

Tonight's presentation features 60 one-minute videos created by
Patrick Liddell [ontologist], a music composer and video artist
currently living in Chicago, specifically for the 60x60 Sanguine Mix.

The Sanguine Mix is part of 360 degrees of 60x60, and is
sponsored in part by the International Computer Music
Association (ICMA). Six 60x60 mixes featuring 360 pieces
from different composers throughout the world will presented
during the conference and at remote concerts around the globe.
The 6 different mixes are all named a different shade of red to
honor the RED edition of ICMC: 60x60 Burgundy mix, Crimson mix,
Magenta mix, Sanguine mix, Scarlet mix,
and Vermilion mix.
Each mix is one hour long and contains different composers
totaling to 360 different works each by different composers
from many different countries around the world.

The Sanguine Mix features Paul Adriaenssens, Rebecca Ashe,
Greg Bartholomew, Dennis Bathory-Kitsz, Jay Batzner, Cameron
Bobro, Jason Bolte, benjamin Boone, Ian Corbett, Andrew Davis,
Daniel Dominguez Teruel, David Drexler, Enrico Francioni, Kenneth
Froelich, Iris Garrelfs, Philippe-Aubert Gauthier, Monroe Golden,
Daniel Griffing, David Hahn, Jack Harris, Andy Hasenpflug,
Luke Jennings, Lynn Job, Jiri Kaderabek, Bevin Kelley,
Kevin Kissinger, Juraj Kojs, HyeKyung Lee, Stephen Lias,
Patrick Liddell, John Link, Tom Lopez, Craig Marks, Gene Marlow,
John Maycraft, Mike McFerron, Scott McGregor Moore,
David McIntire, Tricia Minty, Steve Moshier, Alon Nechushtan,
Julia Norton, Doug Opel, Maggi Payne, Michael Pounds,
Reconsiderate, Margaret Schedel, Les Scott, Alan Shockley,
Mary Simoni, Steven Snowden, Michael Spicer, Laurie Spiegel,
Stephen Stanfield, Madjid Tahriri, Eldad Tsabary, Doug Van Nort,
Giovanni Varrica, Rob Voisey, and Jon Weinel.

. 9:15 . Transmorphous Sound Ensemble . Formed in February 2009
by Chris Meloche and Richard Moule as a
forum for sonic creation in
which the two participants create an atmosphere in which sounds
can organically grow and morph into ever-changing soundscapes.

Sounds slowly appear and
disappear while the passage of time suddenly becomes
an irrelevant concept.

. 10:15 . Geek Weekend . The geeks are back for another
summer sizzler. Robert Hoare (Berlin) and Steven Sauvé
(Hamilton) look forward to bringing you all manner of sultry
sounds, drenched in absurdity, and dripping with irony.
No computers have been harmed in the making of this music.
ADVISORY: Random processes are used throughout
the performance.

. GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS . After the 60x60 A/V
presentation, the unique evolving light paintings of
General Chaos Visuals
will provide us with mesmerizing
eye candy projected onto a live canvas of performers.

musique concréte and deep ambient to produce dense
and eerie soundscapes highlighted on their releases
"The Lanthanide Series"
(Stasisfield, 2008) and

Neil's music could be described
as warm, atmospheric, and cinematic electronic music. The sound
design of naw is firmly grounded in the rich traditions of dub studio
culture but can also be weighed alongside formal contemporary
composition. His music was described in "The Wire" as having
" ...the kind of sharpness and clarity usually lost amid the murk
and decay of clicks and cuts and digital delays." Neil has released
music on various labels including noise factory records and on
elevation recordings
for his most recent project whisper room.

In addition to his recording career Neil is an accomplished curator
and digital media artist, he has shown work in a variety of traditional
and non-traditional spaces since the late 1980's. His projects have
included works in video, radio, print, and internet diffusion as well
as other non-gallery spaces including derelict buildings, billboards,
pirate airwaves, and public space. Neil has presented projects at
the Finland Contemporary Museum, ISEA, Subtle Technologies
Conference, La SAT, The Medusa Complex, Mutek Festival and
The Music Gallery. When Neil is not occupied with audio/visual
musings he steps into his co-managing editor role on vagueterrain.net
an online digital arts quarterly and is a member of the board of directors
for MusicWorks magazine. His online HQ is www.phoniq.net

ROBERT RICH LIVE IN CONCERT

St. George the Martyr Church . 197 John St

PiNG doors open at 6:30pm . concert starts at 7:30pm

Across three decades and almost 40 albums, California-based
Robert Rich has helped define the genres of ambient, dark ambient,
and "tribal" electronic fusions, yet his music remains hard to categorize.
Part of his unique sound comes from using homemade acoustic and
electronic instruments, microtonal harmonies, custom software, chaotic
systems and feedback networks. Rich began building his own analog
synthesizers in 1976, when he was 13 years old, and later studied
for a year at Stanford’s prestigious CCRMA while earning a
degree in psychology.

Rich released his first album Sunyata in 1982. Among these early
releases, the 1986 Swedish LP Numena found its way into some of
the earliest London chill rooms and influenced DJs like Jonah Sharp
and Mixmaster Morris. Rich then began a string of 11 critically
acclaimed releases for the Hearts of Space label. His two
collaborations with Steve Roach, Strata (1990) and Soma (1992),
laid the groundwork for what became known as techno-tribal music.
His collaboration Stalker (1995) with B. Lustmord became a defining
landmark of dark ambient.

Rich has performed in caves, cathedrals, planetaria, art galleries and
concert halls throughout Europe and North America. His all-night
Sleep Concerts, first performed in 1982, became legendary in the
San Francisco area. He occasionally revives his all-night concert
format, using live nocturnal radio broadcasts to extend the audience
range. In 2001, Rich released the 7 hour DVD Somnium, a studio
distillation of the Sleep Concert experience, possibly the longest
continuous piece of music ever released at the time.

It's time for the PiNG to emerge from winter hibernation so we're
back with a series of spaced out shows at Supermarket in
Kensington Market.

8:30 . The Devil In The Design . One of the PiNG's favourite
space
guitarists, Phil Ogison (also of The Moon Dandies, Harold,
A Pretty Sonic Splatter
, Psychosomatic Climax Machine)
returns to create a sweet quiet noise with his solo project
The Devil In The Design. TDITD
will be joined by percussionist
Jeff Howard on the electronic kit and visualist
Catherine Tammaro
of Subduction Current.

9:30 . URM . Jamie Todd (also of dreamSTATE, NOiNO + SADU)
has fuelled up the laptop to launch a spaced out set of electronics,
sequences and drones along with some interspersed improvised
ambient soundscapes. Unlike the launching of Gemini 3, no
corned beef sandwiches will be snuck onboard as we don't want
any crumbs floating about messing up the instrumentation.

. GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS . Throughout the evening, the
unique evolving light paintings of General Chaos Visuals will
provide us with mesmerizing eye candy projected onto a
live canvas of performers.

. As an added treat, Phil, Jeff and Jamie will all plug in together

avant/improv/instrumental performance and ambient/drone/dj sound
installation. All compositions are performed improvised in real time.
Noise, hiss, and dynamic peaks, sub and supersonics are intentional
and controlled to ensure a maximum lo-fi listening experience. The aim
of Beta Cloud is to provide intensity, relaxation, positive aggression,
and a sense of passionate response to all listeners.

. THE SALES DEPARTMENT . The Sales Department is MD Matheson
who performed last at the PiNG in the C'est What/Club Nia days as
Beef Terminal. The music of The Sales Department departs from
the sonic and effects laden guitar work of Beef Terminal as there
is a heavier electronic feel to his music now, focused on an emotional
and mental connection with the music, through classic IDM rhythmic
structures and ambient soundscapes that ultimately work as time
machines. As with Beef Terminal, the music is still designed to reflect
life in the urban and suburban landscapes. The dichotomy of the messy
city and the clean cut lawns of the suburbs. This is music for travelling between opposing worlds. The Sales Department has recently released
an new album
Measured Life.

. General Chaos Visuals . The Chaos guys (Stephen Lindsey and
Eric Siegerman
) will be back to light up the PiNG with their unique,
compelling and mind bending light paintings.

ambient to produce dense and eerie soundscapes. Using the
process of improvised tonal manipulation found on their releases
"The Lanthanide Series"
(Stasisfield, 2008) and "Glaciations"
(Dark Winter, 2009), Deane and rik will be sharing Kalte's musical
vision of isolation and darkness in a live setting for the very first time.
Also in celebration of the PiNG's 10th, Deane is releasing his new
DVD from AKUMU, "Tapeten: Video Anthology 2005-2008."
The DVD is a collection of experimental and abstract videos spanning

across the city are very proud to perform at the PiNG's Tenth
Anniversary. Invited by rik of the ping things label to release a
new album for the occasion, dreamSTATE are currently finalizing

, a selection of soundscapes recorded live
at their PiNG performances throughout the last 10 years. Perhaps
you were at some of those shows. Please join dreamSTATE again
as they present a set of old and very new works for 2009.

. THE DEVIL IN THE DESIGN . Freshly flown in from another space,
Phil Ogison
returns with a live version (really live) of his new 'live'
studio release, Six Ways To Undo The Horizon. As Phil describes it,
"Basically it's just me, the guitar, and mod pedals. The whole project
is a 'back to basics' live improvisation thing, a more experimental
ambient expression. Me talking to the guitar and the guitar
talking back to me."

South East Asia, Lorne returned to Toronto in August of 2008 and
began playing with the psychedelic/dub/jam band Harold as their

PiNG doors open at 8pm . 1st set at 8:30 . $6

THE AMBiENT PiNG and New Adventures in Sound Art present
RADiO iN AMBiENCE
as part of the Deep Wireless festival at the NAISA
Space
in the Artscape Wychwood Barns at 601 Christie Street, Studio #252.
The Artscape Wychwood Barns are located on the east side of Christie Street
just 2 blocks south of St. Clair West and few blocks west of the St. Clair West
Subway. This is a great chance to have a look at this cool new art venue.
The
cozy concert setting of the NAISA Space will allow for an intimate
affair to catch our musical friends Kristen Roos
, Anna Friz and
Nilan Perera
play with and bend the airwaves.

. Kristen Roos is an artist whose approach to creating sound art usually involves
a translation, or change, from one state to another. Objects normally used to bring
information in a particular way are repurposed, and reconstructed into new vibrating
forms. These temporary structures hope to inspire infinite interpretations for the
objects and spaces that make up the world around us.

Ferry Crossing Interpreted & Vinegar Factory One by Kristen Roos
and Anna Friz. This performance will consist of two fifteen-minute pieces.
The first is based on a score that Kristen created from a collage of field
recordings gathered on Vancouver Island, Cortes Island and the ferry
between Cortes Island and Quadra Island. Together they will recreate
this Ferry Crossing using a theremin, radios, and various amplified objects.
The second piece originates from a performance at the Vinegar Factory
in Vancouver, for bowed fire bells, amplified wire brush, tape recorder,
theremin, harmonica, kazoo, and radios.

. Nilan Perera is a sonic explorer and improviser whose work expands the language
and techniques of experimental electric guitar performance. In his unusual approach
to the guitar, Perera utilizes preparations of assorted paraphernalia such as swizzle
sticks, paper clips, metal brushes and the like, as well as feedback and a variety of
electronic effects.

. Flowers Of Hell . Based in London and Toronto, the Flowers Of Hell
are a trans-Atlantic experimental orchestra who explore the intersecting
points of classical & blues-based musical forms. Built around timbre-
to-shape synaesthetic visions, their April 2009 CD & LP 'Come Hell
Or High Water'
features collaborators from the Patti Smith Group,
John Cale’s band, Spiritualized, Broken Social Scene, & others. Pete
‘Sonic Boom’ Kember of Spacemen 3& E.A.R. has mentored
them
through their two albums, and after catching a number of London
shows, Kevin Shields had them open for My Bloody Valentine last fall.

With an eight member line up, they will be eschewing their regular set
for a special AMBiENT PiNG performance of ‘Swings And Roundabouts’,
a semi-structured/semi-improvised work lasting 30 - 40 mins. The piece
is a journey through layers of drones rising, falling, & evolving, while
strings, horns, & woodwinds exchange solos overtop, interspersed
with feedback guitar, orchestral drums, singing saw, and
various tremeloed instruments.

. Beta Cloud is C.Pace; a western classical and jazz educated
performer. Beta Cloud aims to span the sonic ground between
avant/improv/instrumental performance and ambient/drone/dj sound
installation. All compositions are performed improvised in real time.
Noise, hiss, and dynamic peaks, sub and supersonics are intentional
and controlled to ensure a maximum lo-fi listening experience. The aim
of Beta Cloud is to provide intensity, relaxation, positive aggression,
and a sense of passionate response to all listeners.

for our first show of the spring we're heading back to The Central
to bring you someone new as well as welcoming back another
PiNG
original.

. 8.30 . Wally Jericho is the original PiNGer as he was the 1st
performer at the 1st PiNG way way back in August of 1999. As
usual,
Wally's been bursting with creativity lately and is busting
to break out his regularly evolving rig of portable yet powerful
sound toys to treat us to a sampling of the musical ideas which
have recently arrived at the Jericho Station.
We're expecting
lots of looping fun as the man with the horn and so many
other instruments brings his magical sounds back to the
PiNG
stage.

. 9.45 . Ruzan Orkestar is a local toronto band which evolved from
the ashes of an old solo project. Renoir (Egin Kongoli) has in its
second year formed into a six-piece collective now compromising

Patricia Auchterlonie
, and Gabriel P. Ruzan's many influences
range from bands belonging to the "post-rock" and ambient genres,
classical composers, to hardcore bands from the eighties and the
underground hardcore bands of the nineties.

. Ortiz blends found sounds, bubbling static, synthesizer malfunctions
and guitar noodling, exploring melancholy melodies and lonely notes
to create ghostly soundscapes that evoke dub and folk music in equal
measures. His live performances take the listener on a dreamy ride,
recalling pastoral landscapes and haunted woods, crescendos building
and receding as gentle guitars and far-away vocals drift in and out
of the mix. Ortiz has self-released several albums of material, in
addition to releases on Vague Terrain and ping things, which
can be downloaded at ortiz.ca

. Joining us for the second set will be the return of quasiMODAL
featuring cheryl o, Eric St-Laurent & Steven Sauvé for an
exquisite evening of cello, guitar and keys feed through a variety

the last 8 years deeply involved in various music communities in

For the PiNG's NiNTH ANNiVERSARY we're returning to the
comfortable sociable space of The Central (just west & south of
the Bathurst Subway Station beside Honest Ed's & Suspect Video.
(BTW - besides their fine beers they also serve delicious meals.)

Like past anniversary shows, we've invited some good friends
who have played a large part in the PiNG's history to perform.
The sonics will be provided by mara's torment (rik maclean from
ping things - who we're sure will be deeply inspired by the mighty
rains we've been having), Pholde (Alan Bloor aka Knurl - performing
on metal soundsculptures) and Whisper Room (a new ambient/improv supergroup with guitarist Aidan Baker from Nadja + ARC, Neil Wiernik
aka Naw on bass guitar and Jakob Thiesen from Students + The Reversibles on drum machine.) Of course it wouldn't be an anniversary
show without the evolving light painting of General Chaos Visuals,
so we're very happy to have Stephen Lindsey + Eric Siegerman
returning for their sixth PiNG anniversary show performance.

bar which has great beer on tap plus gourmet coffee and
munchies available.

For July 16th, Phil Ogison (The Devil In The Design)
is presenting four works entitled, 'Behind the seen'.
The concept for this project is an exploration of
situationist views of landscape and structures
in a historical framework.

These pre-recorded/live element works are comprised of found
sound collected around the Toronto Harborfront and archival
spoken word samples, digitally manipulated and arranged with
the addition of live electric guitar and keyboard synthesizer.
For this occasion, ten limited edition studio copies of
'Behind the seen'
will be available for the price of $5.00 each.

with promotions of artistic research and is composed of
artists, musicians, video makers.

harmed in the making of this music.

Tues. Jan. 29th • NEW ARTiSTS FOR A NEW YEAR
Featuring Syzygia . Sleep Research Facility . Ortiz

@ the UNDERGROUND downstairs @ the DRAKE HOTEL
1150 Queen St. W @ Beaconsfield . W of Ossington . E of Dufferin
Tuesday January 29th . 9pm . PWYC (5$ suggested)

Please note the later start time of 9PM.

. SYZYGIA . The project of Harrison Dahme, dealing with the
ambient and atmospheric.

. SLEEP RESEARCH FACILITY . Sleep Research Facility explores
notions of awareness and perception in the sub/unconscious listener.
Focusing primarily on sound bereft of rhythm based energies, SRF's
goal is to provide listening environments wherein the music simply
adds texture to the silence. A kind of “play me quiet” sound suitable
for listening to actively or passively depending on circumstances,
creating an aural experience which guides the mind through gentle
misdirection rather than forcing its attention, allowing listeners to
drift in their own diversified thoughts.

. ORTIZ . Laurier Brown finds the crinkly, skittering nuggets in
the white noise. His first Ortiz release The Crinkle and its Faces
was an exploration of glitchy layered noisescapes, almost
undetectable beats mingled with hiss and static. Dark dreams
for long winter nights put to tape, digitized, randomized, spliced,
split up, spit out. His second release, Salvage, further digs into
the sonic subconscious, carving subterranean passages under
ancient roots planted in the psych
ospiritual mulch. Hooves
draws from the ghosts left behind in the cracking pavement
where the groves once grew, remembering great herds, drifting
past gulls flying out to sea.

Tuesday November 27th • AN AUTUMN CHiLL
Featuring SHEN and Mark Thibideau from Repair

@ the UNDERGROUND downstairs @ the DRAKE HOTEL
1150 Queen St. W @ Beaconsfield . W of Ossington . E of Dufferin
Tuesday November 27th . 8pm . PWYC (5$ suggested)

. SHEN . taken from the arcane taoist term for `refined energy' or `depth', shen is noah pred's outlet for lowtempo explorations of forwardthinking computer music. drawing inspiration from the eastern aesthetics of botanical architecture and geomantic techniques, shen evokes organic structures through lush ecologies of synthetic chords, deep textures and minimalist machinations. honing his craft through sets performed alongside the likes of monolake, deadbeat, shulman, lusine, and bluetech, his unique interpretation of the downtempo genre rapidly evolved into a distinctly recognizable sound. incorporating elements of electro, dub and minimal techno, shen's fluid funk is aimed equally at the public thrill of the dancefloor and the internal transcendence of headphones. with tracks appearing on the acclaimed leftcoast liquid vol. 1, floating point 3and various green samurai clan compilations, the debut shen fulllength, outlines, was released in december 2006 on native state records.

. Mark Thibideau . catch Mark Thibideau from the Toronto based techno threesome Repair as he takes a break from his regular duties as the Drake's excellent soundman for the PING to lay down some ambient synthesized spaced out grooves live on stage.

. SADU LiVE @ THE PiNG with GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS . to close
out the evening we'll be showing this just released DVD on the
big screen. This is the world premiere of the concert video
of SADU performing live with GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS on
June 13th 2006 at THE AMBiENT PiNG which was directed
and produced by David Sloma of Rockin' Films and
features a 5.1 surround sound mix (in dts and
Dolby Digital) by Jamie Todd.

SADU is Eric Hopper (Sylken), Terrence O'Brien (Anomalous
Disturbances) and Jamie Todd (URM, dreamSTATE and NOiNO).
GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS is Stephen Lindsey and Eric Siegerman

Tues. Oct. 30th • ALL HALLOW’S EVE-EVE
Featuring Ghost of a Flea and MiMo

@ the UNDERGROUND downstairs @ the DRAKE HOTEL
1150 Queen St. W @ Beaconsfield . W of Ossington . E of Dufferin
Tuesday Octiber 30th . 8pm . PWYC (5$ suggested)

Ghost of a flea is a noise/ritual/literary project by Toronto-based
Nicholas Packwood. Ghost of a flea draws on techniques from
musique concrète, found sound and angelic grammar to produce
cinematic dark ambient music for opening the gates, for conjuring
lost love, for summoning and binding. 93 93/93

MiMo is a duo featuring multi-instrumentalists Matt Miller (laptop,
guitars and synth) and Samuel Morgenstein (drums, percussion
and electronics). Their live performances combine stripped down
compositions and skeletal arrangements to create wide-open
soundscapes for improvisation. This improvisation can take many
forms: solos, the laying down of a spontaneous groove, or an act
of inspiration whereby sounds, rhythms and phrases are captured
in real-time, then deconstructed, manipulated and re-organized,
until, in a fleeting moment, these elements collide into a distant
murmur, a pulse, an explosion, or even cacophony.

Way way back in the last century, THE AMBiENT PiNG began
presenting live multimedia performances featuring innovative
and experimental artists exploring the many forms of ambient
music. From 1999 to 2006, the PiNG produced AMBiENT PiNG
TUESDAYS
as a weekly series of live performances held in a
variety of nightclubs in the Toronto area. Since the late
summer of 2006 and after seven years of weekly shows,
the PiNG now presents AMBiENT PiNG TUESDAYS on
a monthly basis. In addition to this monthly series, the
PiNG
continues its tradition of periodically presenting
international and local artists live in a variety of
alternative concert spaces.

For our 343rd show, we celebrate 8 YEARS OF LiVE @ THE PiNG
and bring you a treat by presenting a heaping helping of some of
the many artists who have defined the flavour of the PiNG. Back
from last year's anniversary show are dreamSTATE (ambient
electronic soundscapes) and GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS
(psychedelic eye candy), who will be joined by AMBIENT-TV
(ambience by PiNG founder A. Sprogis), Synþ (percussive
synthetics from Terry Campbell's multi-year project),
A PRETTY SONIC SPLATTER (progressive electronics by
Anne Sukowski
of Building Castles out of Matchsticks and
Phil Ogison of The Devil in the Design), NOiNO (improvised
experimental with Jim Bailey, Matthew Poulakakis and
Jamie Todd) and SYLKEN (space music featuring Eric Hopper
with dreamSTATE's Scott M2 and Jamie Todd reprising their
past when all three played together as Radio Silence.).

To make the night even more special, NOiNO, SYLKEN and Synþ
will all be releasing their new CDs, so check out their new music
and all the other cool stuff at the ping things media table. Our

wonderful host, THE DRAKE UNDERGROUND, has given
us
the whole night to play, so come early and plan to stay late.

Tuesday July 31st DARK SUMMER NiGHTS 2
Featuring
the deep dark ambience of
mara's torment
and AKUMU

@ the UNDERGROUND downstairs @ the DRAKE HOTEL
1150 Queen St. W @ Beaconsfield . W of Ossington . E of Dufferin
Tuesday July 31st. 8pm . PWYC (5$ suggested)

8.30 mara's torment rik and Sovaak return to the PiNG
stage to celebrate the release of the mara's torment compilation
set "mt96061". Featuring old favorites, new music and rare tracks
from the last ten years, this collection finally proves just how an
integral a force the sock monkey has been all this time. In keeping
with the idea of the comp, rik looks forward to playing re-imagined
work that will appeal to new and old fans alike. This performance will
also be accompanied by video by the brilliant and talented Sarah Grant
who has created work for a number of previous mara's torment performances. If you can only see one mara's torment show this
year, this is surely the one you want to see.

9.30 Akumu • After a recent break from live performances,
Toronto's Akumu (aka Deane Hughes) returns to THE AMBiENT PiNG bringing his brand of atmospheric ambience, shadowy beats and minimal electronic
manipulations.

Formed as a solo project in 2000, Akumu has released three full-length
albums on his own Spider Records label, a split CD with Andrew Duke
on Cohort Records as well as various compilations and net tracks.

Akumu has performed live across Ontario and Quebec, including 2005’s
Mutek festival in Montréal, and features projections of his distorted
photography, animated collages and 2D/3D video experiments.

For this performance at the PiNG, Akumu will be creating an eerie,
flowing soundscape that draws on new material from his upcoming
solo EP and from 2006's Cohort release.

Tuesday June 26th DARK SUMMER NiGHTS 1
Featuring
s:cage (dark electronics)
+ KNURL (metal machine noise)
+ visuals by VJ Carrie Gates

@ the UNDERGROUND downstairs @ the DRAKE HOTEL
1150 Queen St. W @ Beaconsfield . W of Ossington . E of Dufferin
Tuesday June 26th . 8pm . PWYC (5$ suggested)

8.15 KNURL Knurl is Canada's best-known noise artist, working
in the style of the Japanese noise masters, and often referred to
as "Canada's King of Noise". He is known for his imaginative
performances where sculptures, machinery, household appliances
and even people are used as the primary sound sources which
are processed through an array of guitar pedals creating the
sonic torrent. Alan Bloor has graced our stage many times
as PHOLDE, but this will be the first time that he performs
at the PiNG as Knurl, the anti-music sound sculptor.

9.15 s:cage • what's astounding in s:cage's work is the ability of
mixing various moods through the assemblage of sounds. there is
beauty and aggression at the same time but there is no disruption;
it could be the symphony of an awakening megalopolis; a million
individuals living their daily lives at the same time. In s:cage's
sound space nothing is as it seems.

• VJ Carrie Gates is here all the way from Saskatoon to wrestle your
retinas with her sensual, psyched-out mix of visuals. Her recent live
video mixing work ranges from lush, abstract textures to dramatic,
punchy patterns, to sexy, enigmatic experiments with household
objects and the human body. Her work is sometimes dark and
mysterious, sometimes extremely vivid and visceral, and sometimes
it is hilariously poppy and bizarre. While never subjugating her visuals
to straight responses to the live sound, she collaborates with sound
artists to create new relationships between sound and vision. Carrie
uses Max/Jitter, Arkaos, Cosmic Painter, a hacked brain, live cameras,
and top secret feedback techniques to create synaesthetic
experiences
for audiences and inspire new ways of thinking.

Please note that for the June PiNG, the sets will be starting
15 minutes earlier than usual and we will be finishing up at 10PM
as the DRAKE HOTEL has a highly recommended live show
following the PiNG featuring RASTER-NOTON artists:
senking
(aka jens massel) and frank bretschneider.

This is an inspired bit of post PiNG late nite programming by
the DRAKE as RASTER-NOTON is an extremely interesting label
based in chemnitz / germany. RASTER-NOTON is meant to be a
platform - a network covering the overlapping border areas of
pop, art and science. They realize music projects, publications
and installation works. Common idea behind all releases is an
experimental approach - an amalgamation of sound, art and design.

Plan to stay late (we are) to catch the yatra-arts presentation
of the RASTER-NOTON summer session with performances by
frank bretschneider, senking, sans soleil w/ visuals by additv
and a i-pod dj set by bender.

Check with the DRAKE for ticket info.

Smash and Teeny are Nilan Perera (altered electric guitar and
effects) and Sarah Peebles (laptop, mixing bowls, speaker drivers,
and sho mouth-organ). They have performed and recorded as a
duo since 2001 in Europe, Canada, the U.S. and Japan, and have
performed with John Butcher, Evan Parker, David Toop, Jin Hi Kim,
Kô Ishikawa, and Darren Copeland, among others. Their double-CD
" Gathering" (Spool), has received critical praise from the likes of
The Wire, Exclaim! and New York's Downtown Music Gallery.

"The duo mix tidal undulations of tone with the ability to pick
out sharp flecks of texture in complex aural environments."
The Wire

Additv (Rob King) is an artist, researcher and student in the
Communication and Culture masters program at Ryerson.
His works have focused on the social interactions between
people in an online environment, emergent systems,

Tuesday March 27th . 8pm - 11pm . PWYC (5$ suggested)

• What do you get when you cross a blushing singer with stage fright
and a pair of methodical twins? A powerhouse of tension: part boy,
part girl, and completely magnetic. A threesome known as Repair.

The techno trio Repair returns to the PiNG for the third time and
for the third year in a row. Join the musically uncompromising
twin brothers, Mat and Mark Thibideau, as they lay down the
beats behind the lush, sultry vocals of frontwoman Dawn Lewis.

• Fresh from their ALMOST LiVE performance on PiNG RADiO
comes our new friends from Quebec, Anachronic XP.

Tired and bored of traditional hip-hop, Quebec City based
Anachronic XP began their experimentations in 1999 by evolving
their music into a mix of electronic soundscapes with hip-hop
beats and patterns. Anachronic XP is a fresh breath from the Quebec
electronic scene as they perform all the beats and scapes live onstage
with synths, samplers and control boards. Guitarist JFO joined the
band last year, bringing his flavour of slide guitar, effects and
synth to the mix.

push the boundaries of musical experimentation. This incredible
CD compilation is strikingly eclectic as a whole, yet remains
somehow thematic through 17 tracks.

Tues. Jan. 30th 2007 • Wally Jericho & URM
@ the UNDERGROUND downstairs @ the DRAKE HOTEL
1150 Queen St. W @ Beaconsfield . W of Ossington . E of Dufferin
Tuesday January 30th . 8pm - 11pm . PWYC (5$ suggested)

For the 1st PiNG of 07, we welcome back our old friend
Wally Jericho, the 1st performer at the 1st PiNG
way way back in August of 1999.

Wally's been bursting with creativity lately and is busting to
break out his new rig of portable yet powerful sonic toys
to treat the PiNG faithful to a sampling of the musical
ideas which have arrived of late to Jericho Station.

We're expecting lots of looping fun as the man with the horn
(and many other instruments) returns to the PiNG stage
for first time in two years with not one but two loopers.
(One can never have enough loopers in one's rig!)

Also on the bill, URM plugs the PC gaming accessories into
his laptop music box to perform a special set in surround sound,
featuring material from the Shadows of Light show which was
recently on AMBiENT PiNG RADiO.

Utilizing only a single laptop filled to the brim with a
virtual mountain of soft synths and sound toys, URM's
Jamie Todd (also of dreamSTATE, NOiNO and SADU)
will take us on a 3-D quadraphonic sonic journey which
explores alien mutant psycho jazz, dark ambience,
spacey soundscapes and sequencer-driven pulse.

• Before and Between Sets we'll be featuring more excerpts
from Kairos the splendid new DVD from Steve Roach featuring
his magnificent music merged with imagery from a variety of
visual artists: Lynn Augustein, Steve Lazur, Steven Rooke,
John Wadsworth
and John Vega with Roger King.
A gorgeous synthesis of sound and visions.

heads improvise the night away as they take us on a
journey through space.

PHOLDE @ 8:30 pm
Alan Bloor (Knurl) returns as PHOLDE to bow, scrape, brush,
klang and caress his self-created metal sound sculptures
with other metal objects to produce thunderous, spacious
soundscapes. Metal, amplified and effected.

SIX HEADS @ 9:30 pm
Using a range of unusual sound sources (home-made
instruments, circuit-bent electronics, toys and found
objects, field recordings, etc.) and some creative
live mixing and audio processing, SIX HEADS produce
a dense, shifting sonic dreamscape of ambient textures,
jarring juxtapositions of concrete sound and an absurd
and vaguely disturbing sense of humour. SIX HEADS are

THE AMBiENT PiNG's 7th ANNiVERSAY SPECiAL
mara's torment dreamSTATE naw
General Chaos Visuals

Thursday August 17th • Tranzac (Main Hall)

Has it really been a year since Dread Pirate rik and Sovaak the Scurvy
Sock Monkey
of mara's torment took to the high seas in search of
the mythic Jade Llama? Whoa, time sure does fly! In celebration of their
return to THE AMBiENT PiNG stage the pair have put together an eclectic
collection of sea shanties and singalongs designed to celebrate both the
excitement of their days at sea and the PiNG's Seventh Anniversary.
Needless to say rik and Sovaak look forward to sharing a bill with
both dreamSTATE and naw, and to reacquainting themselves
with some old familiar faces. Yaaaarrrrr!!!!

Electronic sound artists dreamSTATE celebrate the launch of OM,
their 3rd CD and their 1st live performance release, with (what else!)
a fresh live performance. OM is an ambient soundscape journey
recorded live at the OM Festival 2000 in Trudeau Park, Tweed,
Ontario and in the spirit of that performance, dreamSTATE will
create a free-ranging soundflow to carry the audience off into
an alternative mindspace. They're very happy that psychedelic
lightlords General Chaos Visuals will be along for the trip!

naw is Neil Wiernik (co-curator of the online digital arts quarterly
vagueterrain.net) and his sound is warm, atmospheric and cinematic -
firmly grounded in both the rich traditions of dub studio culture and
formal contemporary composition. The Wire recently described it
as having "the kind of sharpness and clarity usually lost amid the
murk and decay of clicks and cuts and digital delays." Upon
learning that the Tranzac has a high quality stereo PA, Neil
has decided to perform pieces from his sets at Mutek this
year - works originally arranged for immersive listening.

Look for the ping things table to get your fix of ambient, electronic,
trip hop, dream pop and chill music until the next PiNG - or visit the
pingthings site
now for an extensive " summer heat" sale on over
50 discs. Yep, they're craaaazy!

*ping things will be the exclusive source for dreamSTATE's
new OM CD from August 18th until October.

Tuesday July 11thCanartic and InsideAMind

Austin's Jon Coats and Randall Peterson formed Canartic with
bass player Gerard Smith in 2002. Canartic utilize dub and
downtempo styles as guides to collage electronic shapes around
simple grooves. The chilled results are then injected with a dose
of psychedelia, courtesy of heavily processed guitar. Finally,
samples round out the mix, providing listeners with hints to the
ideas behind the music. Live, Canartic perform as a duo, with
Coats dub mixing in real time from hard disk, and Peterson
adding treatments and his processed guitar.

As the definition of the word "DJ" continues to expand,
InsideAMind emerges in Toronto as a four man scratch band,
further stretching artistic boundaries by performing live original
compositions with vinyl. The scratch musicians, as they call
themselves, bring forth a unique angle to what a group of
DJ's/Producers armed with instruments called turntables can
create. By developing outside the often limiting battle-oriented
mindframe that scratching is too often associated with, the
crew is bringing new life to this ever evolving artform.

Before Sets CD • The Truth In Me by Roger O'Donnell
This week we feature former Cure keyboardist Roger O'Donnell's
splendid solo record which was inspired by and created with a
Moog Voyager synthesizer. Definitely not a concept album,
rather a concept for an album as it was a re-visiting of his
early days of composing using limited equipment, but now
with 25 years of influence and experience to draw upon.
It's definitely a voyage worth taking.

Between Sets CD • Momentium by Jeffrey Koepper

we celebrate by welcoming back our favourite independent
label, Worthy Records for the first of two summer in the city
performances. Night 1 features the electronic manipulations
of
Josh St. Denis and the mysterious sounds of -243 °C.
Ending the night is collaboration between these two
projects with guest Anne Sulikowski joining them on keys.

and Chris Kukiel) return to the PiNG with NOiNO (James
Bailey, Matthew Poulakakis
and Jamie Todd)
to bend fold and mutilate sound.

Up first, PHOLDE strokes, bows and carrases his metal
sculptures into an amorphous soundscape to be welded
with the sonic shiftings of the NOiNO aggregate into
an organic, electronic, metallic, sonorous tapestry.

Next up, ARC's guitar drones and pulse driven drums and
percussion will be augmented with the found, sampled,
synthetic sounds and rythmic machinery of NOiNO in an
all out jam to celebrate improvisational bands that were
born out of desire and necessity on the PiNG stage.

Before Sets CD • blacklight days ep by Canartic
We'll be spinning the downtempo sounds of Canartic who
will be visiting the PiNG on July 20th.

rigid instruments in a free flowing and creative manner and
having the flute fit in as a sometimes melodic, sometimes
electronic/drone based addition.

soundshaping for your enjoyment. Tonight will also see the
release of the new SADU LiVE CD which features deep
ambient soundforms performed by Eric, Terry and
Jamie during 2005. SADU LiVE will be available
from rik @ his ping things CD bar and online store.

Once again, General Chaos Visuals will illuminate the event
with moving kaleidoscopic coloured textures. Don't blink.

Tuesday June 6thThe Ministry of Inside Things
(Philadelphia, PA) and
General Chaos Visuals

MoIT's Spring/Summer 2006 Tour touches down at the PiNG to
bring us another taste of their spacemusic.

The Ministry of Inside Things (electronic musician Chuck van Zyl
and electric guitarist Art Cohen) are considered among the most
innovative of US synthesists today. Influenced by the early music
of Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze and Ash Ra Tempel, their
spacemusic has been described as linear, leading the listener across
many sonic terrains. Based on improvisation, The Ministry of Inside
Things
creates electronic realizations that flow from theme to theme,
with the experience often lasting up to two hours. Through use
of textures and atmospheres as well as harmony, rhythm and melody,
the group transports the audience on an internal sonic excursion.

Chuck van Zyl has been recording electronic music & performing in
public for over 15 years. Van Zyl originally worked under the name
Xisle, but is best known for hosting one of the US's most successful
radio shows of electronic music, STAR'S END, for over 20 years.
Art Cohen has been pushing the limits of the electric guitar in the
studio and in live performance for well over 15 years. He uses
processing to enhance the space around his guitar and loops his
live sound to create lush layers to create soundworlds of
immense depth and beauty.

General Chaos Visuals will also be in the house to illuminate
MOIT
and to fill our eyes with their unique blend of visual candy.
